Presley Can Finally Come Out and Play!

It's been a pretty uneventful few days...which is good. I got to meet the new neonatologist taking over for our other one who rotated to a new hospital. She believes Presley really had NEC after going back and reviewing her chart and Xrays. She wanted to go ahead and wait the full 10 days before feeding her (unlike the other Dr. who only wanted to wait 7). We feel so sorry for her because she has to be starving to death! If her Xray looks good in the morning then she will start slowly getting fed. Our main concern is how she will tolerate feedings after this massive infection. There is a chance of her developing scar tissue (or what they call a stricture) in her bowels. If that happens, it would have to be surgically corrected and she would go several more days without food again. Let's just hope and pray she tolerates getting fed well!
It's gonna be a very nerve-racking weekend as we wait to see how her tummy does. On a good note, Presley got her umbilical vein catheter out so she can finally be kangarooed and held. She's only been held twice by me and once by Jon! Here's some pictures of Presley getting loved on....

And Presley finally got to get a bath! She really enjoyed it!

Paige has been doing well with her tube feedings and the Dr. feels she is ready to start working on taking a bottle once a day. Today was her first attempt. She only took a couple mL, which is expected for her gestational age. We definitely have a lot of work to do! They should be moving her feeding tube out of her mouth to her nose tonight so it will be easier next time.
