Hospital Confinement...

I went to see the maternal-fetal specialist on Tuesday and got a great report. Babies looked great but my blood pressure was a little elevated. Baby A (Paige) was 2lbs. 1 oz and Baby B (Presley) was 1lb. 15 oz. He was very happy with everything going on except my joint swelling and pain. He wanted me to get in with my rheumatologist ASAP just to make sure I was doing ok. I got in with him and he ran some labs and visited with my OB and the next thing I know I'm on bedrest.

Then, on Thursday afternoon, I got a call from my OB saying she wants me to be admitted to be observed closer. I quickly packed a bag and got all my travel-sized toiletries thinking I would only be here over the weekend. After some more labs came back on Friday morning, I was informed that I wouldn't be going home until after the babies are here! I'm due September 7th, but my OB won't let me go past 37 weeks which is mid-August. I could possibly be here 2.5 more months!

As of now, none of the Dr.'s on my case really understand what's going on. One says it's lupus causing all my high blood pressure and protein in my urine, another one says it's pre-eclampsia, while another says its just plain old hypertension. I'm so confused! I was started on a new blood pressure medicine which still isn't working very well and put on steroids to help my immune system. I was also given 2 shots of steroids that will help mature the babies lungs just in case they come soon. Since I'm only 27 weeks, Abilene doesn't have a high enough level of care to provide babies this tiny, so I would be shipped off to Ft. Worth or Lubbock. I really don't want to leave Abilene! It's lonely enough being here in the hospital. I couldn't imagine being 2 hrs away from family and friends! My Dr. won't let me deliver here unless I'm 30 weeks so these next 2.5 weeks are very crucial!
