We're Home!

The girls got discharged from Cook's last Monday. Everyday I sit down and try to update this blog, but never seem to find the time to finish. They have definitely kept us busy!

Last weekend we knew we were getting pretty close to coming home. The girls were eating all their feeds through a bottle and almost meeting all the criteria to go home. Their doctor said on Friday that she might not see us again because we could be gone before she got back on Monday! We didn't really think we would be discharged for a few more days though. Paige had been off her oxygen for almost 2 days and was doing well without it until the nurse practitioner came by. Her sats were in the upper 80's and she didn't like that so the nurse put her back on oxygen. Instead of trying to wean her again and waiting another 72 hrs to make sure she didn't need it when we went home, we told them we'd just go home on it. The pulmonologist had already arranged us to have home oxygen, pulse ox, and an apnea monitor so we had all the equipment. We just wanted to go home and not have to wait another 3 days. Presley's weight was also a factor that might have kept us there a couple more days. She was exactly 4lbs. and she had to continue gaining weight because they wouldn't send us home if she was under 4lbs.
We were really hoping we would get to go to the Cowboys/Chargers game last Sunday night. The Ronald McDonald House gets free tickets to all the Cowboys games from NIKE and we were looking forward to one last night out. Instead, we had to forgo the free tickets because we got to "room in" with the girls at the hospital....tough decision, I know... (just kidding!) "Rooming in" is where the parents spend the night with the baby (or babies in our case) to show the nurses they can handle it once their home. We were so excited to spend time alone with the girls and not be constantly watched by a nurse. Boy was it a rough night though... The nurse came in about 4am and said "I wish I could take the babies out to the nurses station for a while and let y'all sleep since you have a long drive ahead of you, but I can't!" The girls kept us up all night long! They cried all night and just wanted to be held constantly. Now I see what went on when I left every night! Presley ended up gaining a ounce that night so she was 4lb. 1oz. We were good to go home! They rushed us out of there in a hurry. I hardly had time to snap pics of the girls!

The car ride home was great. They slept the entire way! I sat in the back seat to watch them, especially since Paige was still on oxygen and monitors. We've had a couple good nights and a lot of long nights since being home. All in all, we are so happy to have our family home and complete. We love these girls so much!

The girls came home on my parents 30th Anniversary!

They had their first pedi appointment on Thursday. Everything went well. They've both gained weight since being home. Paige is 5lb. 8 oz. and Presley is 4lb. 3 oz. Hopefully Presley will catch up soon. She's eating just as much, if not more, than Paige at every feed. This was our first outing with babies. We were only 5 minutes late to our appointment. It could've been worse... It was a little more difficult than I had planned to get all of us out the door...
The Dr. said that we'd have to stay confined at home (except for appointments) until the girls are 4 months old and then he'd re-evaluate and see if we can leave the house. We're already halfway there! But right when they turn 4 months old, RSV season starts. They will get vaccinated every month to help lessen the effects if they do catch RSV, but it's still a very serious virus if they do get sick. Their Dr's told us we had to limit visitors to family only and keep them away from other kids. We can't wait until it's safe for us to leave the house and show off just how cute they are!

At the pediatrician's office...

Jon's mom came for a visit

Jon put some headbands on the girls while I was napping one day and snapped some pictures. I think Paige is mad that she didn't get the pink one...

On Friday, Paige had a very long night. She kept waking up in the middle of the night screaming and her oxygen would be in her mouth pushing on her gums or in her eyes. She kept pulling and tugging on it all night long. Finally, we just left it off of her and she's done great the last 2 days without it! Hopefully she'll stay off of it this time! I'm ready to get all this medical equipment out of my house. All these cords are a hazard...especially when you get up in the middle of the night.

He learned this trick from me.... it sure makes the 3am feed go by faster!

We just wanted to thank everyone for all the prayers for us and the girls along this long journey. I never thought I'd ever see the day we'd have our girls home when this all started 7 weeks ago....and here we are! I can't thank our friends enough for all the meals to help me out and the lawn mowing to help Jon out. We truly are blessed!
We're enjoying every minute we're getting to spend at home with the girls before we have to go back to work. We travel back to Cook's tomorrow for the girls follow-up eye appointment. Let's pray that we get a good report!
