6 Months!

I know I say this every month, but I can't believe it's already been another month and they are now half of a year old!!! It really is going by so fast. Here's a progression from 1 month old still at Cook's to 6 months old today at home!

We had our 6 month checkup and they girls are doing remarkably well! He said it's very unusual for preemies like them to have made it 6 months without being sick. I guess all this sitting around at home not going anywhere is paying off!
Here's their stats:
Paige-
Weight: 12lb. 0 oz.
Length: 24 inches
Head Circumference: 16.25

Presley-
Weight: 11 lb. 9 oz.
Length: 24 inches
Head Circumference: 16.25

They're both the exact length and have the exact same head circumference! Neither of them are on the growth chart yet for weight, but are both on the bottom of the chart for length and head circumference. If we went by their corrected age of 4 months, they would be in about the 15th percentile for weight.
They got their usual 3 vaccines plus another RSV shot and now that they're 6 months old, a flu shot too! Poor babies got 5 shots! They were miserable the entire afternoon and evening. I feel so bad for them because there's really nothing I can do but give them Tylenol!
Their reflux had been out of control the last month so we've been trying to get them on another medication besides zantac. It wasn't working anymore. They would still scream every time they spit up and all night because of the acid burning. We finally got some Nexium and they seem to be doing really well on it! They're sleeping better and so are we!
Their doctor wants to start them on some physical therapy just since they were preemies and to help with their muscle development. He didn't want to start it right now because that would mean us having to get out of the house and they could potentially get sick. I asked if they could come to our house but he said that they therapist would have been at several other kids houses who could've been sick and she could bring it to our house. So, we're just going to wait until April at their 9 month appointment so start it since the flu/RSV season should be over.

Here's a few tidbits about them:
Paige-
-still does not like eating much solids! She's enjoyed avocados and bananas a couple of times, but makes the worst face when you put food in her mouth!
-starting to stand when you hold her instead of just bending her knees up
-getting better at sitting up with assistance
-will roll from back to front... and gets very upset after she rolls onto her stomach!
-Has figured out how to squeal! very loud!
-still our little mellow baby!...except for in the evenings when she just has to let out some cries.

Presley-
-will seriously eat anything you put in her mouth.. probably even dirt! This girl loves food! She's like a baby bird when she sees the spoon. She opens her mouth up really wide and will even grab your hands and push the spoon towards her mouth!
-is terrified of anyone with glasses! She will stick out her bottom lip and start screaming at the sight of anyone in glasses.
-has to be wherever the action is. If I'm doing dishes, she has to be in there in her bumbo watching.. if I'm getting ready, she has to be in there too. She won't play quietly alone like Paige does!
-is always moving! She won't stay still unless she's sleeping. The other night Jon and I laid her in her boppy lounger while we sat down to eat dinner. A few minutes later we get up and find her like this... just hanging out under the ottoman! She's figured out how to scoot over the top!

I can't believe that in 6 months they'll be having their first birthday party!! wow!

  1. I don't know if this will help, but one of our girls didn't care for baby food or finger foods. I read (in Mother Food which is all about breastfeeding, milk, food, etc for mom and baby) that some babies that have been breastfed may do better eating what mom eats because they are used to having a combo of flavors in the milk. Anyway, one night I dumped the entire plate of what we were eating (I think it was veggie lasagna) into the food processor, spooned it up and she ate the entire bowl! I'm sure you are being super cautious because they are preemies, but you may give it try if you guys are eating something somewhat bland.
